The new version of the plugin “Quick Featured Images Pro” for WordPress contains new functions and usability improvemts. So the version number jumped from 3.9.4 up to 4.0.
If you first used the free plugin “Quick Featured Images” (QFI) maybe you want to re-use the settings and rules of the Preset section (default featured images) of the free plugin in the permium version “Quick Featured Images Pro” (QFIP). From version 4.0 on that is possible with the import feature.
If the free plugin QFI is still not deinstalled in the site you can import all presets to the Pro version with just one single click. You can drop rebuilding of all the rules. That saves your time and efforts considerably.
Removing first content image in Presets automatically
Imagine this case: the website is fed via XMLRPC by external sources, you defined a Preset rule to use the first post content image as featured image automatically, but after that the theme displays both the featured image and the content image which looks oddly. You may want to let remove the content image automatically.
The new option for removing the first image in the post content automatically does that for you. Just activate the checkbox to let it work. And you can relax.
Improved image selection dialog
Before version 4.0 the dialog box for selecting images shows all files uploaded into the media library. Audios, Videos, PDFs, ZIPs, DOCs and so on. These media types can not be set as featured images. So it was pointless to display them in the dialog box.
The improved dialog box since version 4.0 shows only images. You can find the desired images faster with less need to browse in the list of images.
Slimmed down lists of users to authors only
Before version 4.0 the post author filters of Quick Featured Images Pro listed all registered users of the website. In most installations the users are post authors, too. But in some websites there are only a few authors and many users without privileges of an author. The list became too long unnecessarily.
Since version 4.0 only users with privileges of an author are listed in the selection box of the author filters. That keeps the lists slim and useful and you can find authors faster.
Hidden author names
In installations with the latest WordPress versions it could happen that the authors list in the Presets did not show the names of the authors. Now the names are displayed.
Forgotten removals of deleted images out of rules
If you would delete an image in the media library the Preset rule assigned with that image is deleted automatically. The assignment with that image was still stored in a Preset with several images.
Now if you would delete an image the image is also removed in rules with more than one image automatically. And if that image was the only one image of the rule the whole rule is removed automatically.
That prevents you from pointless automatic assignments of not existing images as featured images.
