Set embedded thumbnails as featured images easily
Since WordPress 2.9 it is super easy to embed videos, images, tweets, audios, and other content from remote providers into your posts. WordPress attempts to get the remote content. If a thumbnail is provided it is displayed, often as preview image of videos.
Since “Quick Featured Images Pro” version 6.3 (in short: QFIP) you can let set the remote thumbnail as featured image for the post automatically. That feature is available both in the Bulk Edit section and the Presets section.
Supported remote content services
QFIP supports all embed providers WordPress has built-in as default. Among them are popular services like DailyMotion, Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, SlideShare, Tumblr and YouTube. See a list of all providers supported by WordPress.
And all other providers which are included by the WordPress functions
wp_embed_register_handler() in plugins and themes are automatically considered by QFIP, too.
Example: YouTube video and its thumbnail
For example: You write a post with an embedded YouTube video, like
Check out this cool video: https:⁄⁄www.youtube.com⁄watch?v=Q76zOXbFojc That was a cool video.
The plugin “Quick Featured Images Pro” will try to retrieve the thumbnail. If the response of the remote server contains informations about a thumbnail QFIP downloads that image, uploads it into the media library and sets it as featured image to the post.
Other improvements in QFIP 6.3
Beside the new support for embedded contents QFIP 6.3 comes with further improvements:
- Added background color for transparent thumbnails or vector graphics on admin pages
- Changed in “Set, replace, remove”: Tiny rearrangement of explanations
- Revised translations
Changes in QFIP 6.2.3
Version 6.2.3 of “Quick Featured Images Pro” added the missing sanitations of the post ID in the “Columns” module. That closes a potential security hole of Cross Site Scripting attacks (XSS). QFIP 6.2.3 was published on June 12, 2017.
Changes in QFIP 6.2.2
Version 6.2.2 of “Quick Featured Images Pro” fixes some untranslatable texts which were written in a new way in WordPress 4.8. And since that version a link to the new license edit page for customers at the online shop is included on the admin page of the plugin.
QfIP 6.2.2 was tested successfully with the new WordPress 4.8. QFIP 6.2.2 was published on June 21, 2017.
