A second question. I’ve been having issues with broken thumnbnails randomly occurring then disappearing. I’ve noticed that sometimes the thumbnails on my post feed on the front end show broken too, but it seems to fix itself.

What might cause this and how might I fix it?

    Thanks

It seems the database entries are ok but the image files are not available. Are they on the server? Are they visible in the media library?

They are all in the media library and visible. If I come back 10 minutes later all the images will show. I can’t find a pattern on which ones do it. This time it’s many of them but a previous time it was just one image.

I just tried to run the manual set/replace and you can see the thumbnails are all broken.

All the files downloaded into the media library fine.

Hi David, thank you for the credentials. The bug is in the browser Firefox. The thumbnails are displayed in the browsers Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer 11 and the new browser called CLIQZ.

WordPress supports the srcset attribute since version 4.4 to offer a “built-in” technique for responsive images. If the page is called via https but the images via http the broken image is shown. It works correctly if the protocol is the same for both (the page and the embedded images).

So the solution are to change the browser (not pretty), to wait for a fix in Firefox (not pretty, too), to change https to http on your server (not safe) or to insert some code in your installation as suggested in How do I disable responsive images in WP 4.4?.

I’m using chrome btw, that’s where I’m seeing this issue.

    Yeah it’s definitely the HTTPS.

If I type in http:// then the site then it doesn’t default to https and the images work. Same with logging into admin. The thumbnails aren’t broken.

It seems that several new posts have loaded and the image loaded on it’s own in draft mode, so if you did something thanks!

I have no problem shutting off SSL to make this work for now.
